Lusso Tan x Down Syndrome Ireland #Take15minutes

Established in 1971, Down Syndrome Ireland is the voice of people with Down syndrome and their families throughout Ireland. The charity has over 3,500 members with 25 branches nationwide. The charity provides an ‘all-through-life’ supports to people with Down syndrome and their families across Ireland with specialists in the areas of health, speech and language, early development, education and adult education and independence that enhance the lives of thousands of children and adults with Down syndrome across the country. The charity is the biggest single group concerned with the welfare of people with a learning disability in Ireland.

Last Wednesday I got to meet Mary Doherty, former president of Down Syndrome Ireland and son Aaron, aged 12 for an amazing photoshoot in St Anne's Park and Rose Gardens in Dublin.

Since her son Aaron was born 11 years ago with Down syndrome, Mary has fought hard every minute of the day to ensure that Aaron reaches his full potential.  As a young mum with a new-born baby with disabilities she experienced first-hand the lack of services and facilities from medical-card issues, provision of language therapists and special needs assistants to help children get the best start in life.

In 2013, the mother of three was appointed the Board of Down Syndrome Ireland and later appointed President. She has been pivotal in ensuring that all children with Down syndrome have access to resource hours and assistance in mainstream school, ending a 10-year discrimination against these children integrating into mainstream education. Since then, Mary has continued to campaign tirelessly to improve the lives of children and adults with Down syndrome and their families.

This is what she has to say about our partnership on the #Take15minutes campaign. “We are delighted to be a part of this important initiative. As busy mums and parents of children with special needs, we often get so caught up fulfilling our everyday roles that we forget we need to take care of ourselves too. By reminding us to take just 15 minutes of self-care, Lusso Tan are promoting and encouraging a more balanced life for all mums - which will not only benefit our mental health, but will allow us to be refreshed and energised to take on the ever-changing demands of our busy lives - whatever the task may be! Down Syndrome Ireland is an organisation that I hold close to my heart, so I am thrilled that funds raised from this initiative will go on to support so many others beginning their journey.”

After the success of the original Lusso Tan Bathbomb we are so delighted to pay it forward with €0.50 donated from the sale of each Limited Edition Summer Meadow Bath Bomb. They will make ideal Mother’s Day gifts for friends and family and are available here for £8.50/ €10.
